Director Anthony Minghella creates a story of theft, deceit and how these individuals have created friendships and lives based on these two elements. The cast of characters create a fundamental story that allow audiences to see how seemingly awful events can create a world of good and its up to those individuals involved to see this and make a difference. Jude Law and Robin Wright Penn flawlessly stimulate the dynamic of a relationship on the rocks in addition to being loaded with baggage. Penn’s conflicted and torn character is a foil to Juliette Binoche’s calm and meditative personality, playing the boy’s mother as well as Jude’s lover in film. Set in London, audiences are brought into the shady environment where Law’s office is located in contrast to the home he and Liv live in. A fast-pacing and thought-provoking film, Breaking and Entering calls in to question the “what if” in one’s life and how we deal with it when it becomes our reality.
